The Attorneys You Need When It Matters Most

Could a website help prevent medical misdiagnosis?

As kids, we believed that our family doctors knew it all. If we were sick, our physician would figure out what the problem was so that we could be treated. However, as you get older, you realize that doctors are just people too, and they certainly don’t know everything.

In fact, the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine reports that 5 to 15 percent of all diagnoses could be erroneous. Complicating matters further is all of the global travel that takes place, so people are exposed to many more conditions than they used to be.

When you think about it, doctors are typically only able to come up with diagnoses for conditions that they have heard of, which is why it makes sense that some symptoms leave them stumped.

In order to help with this, a website and app has been created that is now the world’s largest medical diagnostic collection. The software relies heavily on images that doctors can use to compare with their patients’ symptoms. At this point, more than 100,000 images have been added to the collection, and there are more than 1,300 diseases on file.

By September 2015, CNN reported that another 1,500 diseases will be added.

The creator of the software, called VisualDX, is currently being used by more than 1,500 medical facilities in the United States, and it is also used by over half of the medical schools in the country. Ultimately, he hopes that his product will help clinicians worldwide.
