High school football player dies from head injury

A high school football player in Oklahoma died on Sept. 19 as a result of a head injury he suffered earlier in the month. The Bartlesville Wesleyan Christian High School student reportedly sustained the head injury when he was tackled during a football game. Although the tackle appeared to be routine, the boy required surgery after the incident.

Family members of the deceased football player say that the pressure on the boy’s head never decreased like they were expecting it to. His condition worsened because he did not have a sufficient amount of oxygen in his blood. When the boy died, his father communicated the news on the football team’s Facebook page and thanked everyone for offering their prayers.

According to reports, the boy was the captain of his football team and a junior linebacker. During a game that was played after the boy’s injury, his fellow players wore stickers with the boy’s team number on their helmets.

While fatal injuries from contact sports are usually unavoidable, many deaths result from accidents in which another person is negligent, such as a car accident caused by a distracted or impaired driver. In such a situation, the surviving family members may want to meet with a personal injury attorney in order to determine how best to obtain compensation for the losses that have been sustained. In some cases, the attorney may recommend filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible party. The damages that are typically sought in such an action include funeral and burial expenses and other amounts that are allowed by statute, which in some cases can include loss of companionship.
